Listening to elders: Jericho Poppler

Check out this glimpse into the creative life of one of our surfing elders, Jericho Poppler. She was the 1976 U.S. Women’s World Champion and helped found the Women’s International Surfing Association. She’s also a beautiful dancer and painter. In 1992, Jericho crossed over from shortboarding to longboarding and became the Women’s World Longboard Champion. Have any other surfers been a world champ in longboarding and shortboarding?

She accomplished all of this without consistent sponsorship.

Jericho helped lay the foundations for a distinctly feminine, yet powerful vision of surfing.
